Where the Wild Things Will Be

Sendak. Jonze. Eggers. Children allegedly left asking why they feel so depressed.

This is a seriously beautiful trailer. I can't wait.

Stunning trailer. But... am I the only one thrown off by Tony Soprano somehow trapped in that costume?

I really dislike this marketing gag of casting well known actors for voice roles. There are more than enough immensely talented voice actors out there.

I agree in principle but I seem to recall hearing that Jonze actually envisioned Gandolfini as "Carol"; something about the babyish inflections in his speech. And casting people like Tom Noonan and Lauren Ambrose in the other roles doesn't seem overly cynical to me--it's not like they spun the DreamWorks wheel of fortune on this one.

Is Tom Noonan a double for a character voiced by Phillip Seymour Hoffman who's really creeping out Lauren Ambrose?

Holy hell. What's the song?

"Wake Up" by Arcade Fire, off of the album Funeral.
What's really intriguing is the Karen O. and Carter Burwell team-up on the score.

It seems to be a different version of the song though...

Funeral is a pretty amazing album. Their follow up, Neon Bible is a pretty good record but less so, maybe because of the now obligatory sophomore record attempts at sounding like Bruce Springsteen.

Walter, you need to go out and buy (or stay in and download Funeral) immediately. Best album of the decade? Quite possibly.

P.S. - This looks amazing.

“And some kids at my screening began to cry and asked their parents to leave, so that should give you an idea.”

“The things are not cute. Max comes off a bit weird and off-putting ‘He slaps his mom!’ and he seems confused and not charming at all.” “No rumpus, no big set pieces, no ’state-of-the-art’ lucrative sequences just some running around on some desert place and thats that.”

I find these excerpts from a test-screening review encouraging (not sarcasm).

That trailer choked me up. It's a hopeful indicator that the movie "gets" the book in a way that say, Watchmen, for all its faithfulness, doesn't.

Funeral beats Neon Bible any day. The second album is an example of an independent band given too much independence -- verses that go on forever (I'm looking at you, "No Cars Go"), big orchestration when the song's intimacy demands smallness, etc.

There are weaknesses in Neon Bible, but the high points outweigh the bad. I find much of Funeral to have muddy production that doesn't draw out the orchestration and the great rhythms enough. Still a great album, but I think Neon Bible is more representative of their live sound.

WILD THINGS looks amazing. I hope the movie is as good as the trailer and I hope it’s well received. Mostly because I’d love to see more kid’s fantasy movies breaking out of the usual mold design and tone wise.

trailer got to me too, can't wait.

agreed on 'funeral' being the best of the decade, alongside 'kid a' anyway.

I have a positive response to the trailer, but I feel rather manipulated. All those shots of the kid running. Seeing a kid running inexplicably evokes a dependable emotional response. (See the mock Shining trailer).

And the combination of Jonze, Sendak, Eggers, and the Arcade Fire song I guess, is like a compendium of Stuff White People Like.

Who am I kidding though, can't wait to see this.

"Stuff White People Like" is the new "Jump The Shark."

I'm totally psyched for this movie, but does anyone actually like "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius"? I thought it was an intolerable shrine to self-absorption. Took me five months to get through it.

Finally managed to see Synecdoche, New York just now, and I am steel reeling. I'd like to say something smart about it, but... wow.

Just wow.

i'm still reeling and i saw it a month ago.
